MBSP Yellow Warbler sighting on 26-Oct-2006

From the TNA message board ...

Yellow Warbler is one of the earliest warblers to move south in the fall. "Most Yellows depart by Sept 10-17 with stragglers through early October......They have been observed on November 1 in the Toledo area and at Headlands State Park...(and) during a snow squall at Cleveland on December 7, 1983." (Birds of Ohio, Peterjohn)

I observed and photographed this beautiful specimen yesterday morning, 10/26/06 in the campground at Maumee Bay St Park.

Also of interest in and about the park, tons of berry trees and bushes providing food for Hermit Thrushes, Robins, Starlings, both Kinglets, Yellow-rumped Warblers and surely a few others I am omitting. A Field Sparow was found in the cabin area of the park. One day I will find a Varied Thrush or Townsend's Solitaire amongst the throngs of Robins and other fruit loving birds at MBSP.

On the raptor front, a N. Harrier was good to see back at Maumee Bay St Park, along with a few Kestrels and a couple of Red-tailed Hawks.

Brian's follow-up posting on October 29:

The Yellow Warbler is still present, along with this Nashville Warbler at Maumee Bay St Park. And, I was surprised to see a Snow Bunting on the road in the middle of the campground. I usually find these more by the beach.

Another update from Brian in that same thread:

Yellow Warbler still present on 10/30/06. Nashville was not seen. A handfull of Tree Swallows added to the interesting mix of birds at the campground.
