Pickeral Creek Wildlife Area continues to have decent shorebird habitat and a good number of birds. We arrived late in the day and with the overcast skies the lighting was not the best. We were able to list 13 species of shorebirds. Best finds were 2-3 Wilson's Phalaropes, a Red-necked Phalarope and two Golden Plovers. Hundreds of Bonaparte's Gulls in various plumages filled the sand bars along with many Caspian Terns. An added bonus was a Sora seen at close range in the grass along the top of the dike.
The birds were easily accessed from the outer dike that runs parallel to Rt. 6 between parking areas B and C.
