May 23, 2006 Magee Marsh Bird Census, ( 7:00 am - 2:30 pm)
Areas covered today were: The two walking trails around the Sportsman's Migratory Bird Center, the main road from Route 2 to the parking lots near the boardwalk, the wildlife beach, the boardwalk, and the Crane Creek State Park beach ridge. 96 species of birds were counted today.
1. Pied-billed Grebe - 7; includes 2 young.
2. Double-crested Cormorant - 10
3. Great Blue Heron - 22
4. Green Heron - 4
5. Great Egret - 12
6. Black-crowned Night Heron - 1
7. Trumpeter Swan - 3
8. Canada Goose - 139
9. Mallard - 11

14. King Rail - 1 pair seen mating !!!!
